Most guys buying women's clothing for the first time order the wrong size, get something that fits badly, and conclude the style doesn't work on them. Almost always it's a sizing problem, not a body problem. This guide converts your existing measurements into women's sizing so you can order once and get it right.
You need a soft tape measure and about three minutes. Measure over bare skin or a thin shirt, not over a hoodie.
The four measurements that matter
- Chest: around the fullest part, tape level under the arms.
- Waist: the narrowest point, usually just above the navel. This is not your jeans waist tag, which sits lower.
- Hips: around the widest point of your seat.
- Shoulders: across the back, from the bony point of one shoulder to the other.
Write these down in centimetres. Almost every women's chart you'll meet on Asian-made clothing uses cm, and converting once at the start saves errors later.
Why men's sizes don't translate directly
Men's sizing is built around chest circumference. Women's sizing is built around a bust, waist, and hip ratio, with the waist and hip doing most of the work. Two people with the same chest measurement can need sizes two apart depending on their shoulders and hips.
For most men buying women's clothing, three things drive fit:
- Shoulders are the real constraint on tops. A women's top cut for a 38cm shoulder span will pull across a 45cm one even if the chest measurement is fine. This is why oversized, drop-shoulder, and stretch fabrics work so well, and why fitted woven blouses are the hardest category to get right.
- Waist beats hips on bottoms. Men typically have a smaller hip-to-waist difference, so skirts and shorts sized to the waist usually fit fine through the hip. Size to your waist and ignore the hip column unless the garment is a fitted pencil or bodycon shape.
- Rise runs short. Women's bottoms are cut for a shorter rise. If a pair of shorts fits at the waist but feels tight through the seat, the rise is the culprit, not the size.

Tops and dresses
Find your chest measurement, then check your shoulder span. If your shoulders fall above the listed range, go up one size or pick a looser cut. Relaxed styles in our tops collection are the safest starting point if you're unsure, and every listing carries its own measurement table.
| Chest (cm) | Shoulders (cm) | Women's US | Women's UK | Asian / CN tag |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 81 to 86 | 36 to 39 | XS (0 to 2) | 4 to 6 | S |
| 86 to 91 | 39 to 41 | S (4 to 6) | 8 to 10 | M |
| 91 to 97 | 41 to 44 | M (8 to 10) | 12 to 14 | L |
| 97 to 102 | 44 to 46 | L (12 to 14) | 16 to 18 | XL |
| 102 to 109 | 46 to 49 | XL (16 to 18) | 20 to 22 | 2XL |
Note the last column. A garment tagged L on an Asian size chart is roughly a women's US M. This single gap accounts for most of the "it arrived tiny" complaints in this category.
Dresses follow the same chest-first logic. A loose waist can be belted, a tight chest cannot be fixed, so size to your upper body when browsing dresses.

Bottoms: skirts, shorts, and pants
Measure your natural waist, not your jeans tag. Most men measure 4 to 6cm larger at the natural waist than their jeans size suggests.
| Waist (cm) | Waist (in) | Women's US | Women's UK | Asian / CN tag |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 61 to 66 | 24 to 26 | XS (0 to 2) | 4 to 6 | S |
| 66 to 71 | 26 to 28 | S (4 to 6) | 8 to 10 | M |
| 71 to 76 | 28 to 30 | M (8 to 10) | 12 to 14 | L |
| 76 to 84 | 30 to 33 | L (12 to 14) | 16 to 18 | XL |
| 84 to 91 | 33 to 36 | XL (16 to 18) | 20 to 22 | 2XL |
Elastic-waist pieces give you roughly 5cm of forgiveness in either direction. Fixed-waist and zip pieces give you almost none, so measure carefully before ordering those. Most of the skirts and shorts in our range use elastic or partially elastic waistbands, which is why they're the most forgiving category for a first order.
Underwear runs on its own logic, since the cut matters more than the number. Our guide to choosing panties covers cut, fabric, and fit in detail, and the panties collection lists measurements per style.
Shoes
Shoe conversion is the one genuinely reliable rule here. Women's sizing runs 1.5 sizes higher than men's in US terms.
| US Men's | US Women's | EU | CN | Foot length (cm) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5.5 | 7 | 38 | 38 | 24.0 |
| 6 | 7.5 | 38.5 | 39 | 24.5 |
| 6.5 | 8 | 39 | 39 | 24.8 |
| 7 | 8.5 | 40 | 40 | 25.4 |
| 7.5 | 9 | 40.5 | 41 | 25.7 |
| 8 | 9.5 | 41 | 41 | 26.0 |
| 8.5 | 10 | 42 | 42 | 26.7 |
| 9 | 10.5 | 42.5 | 43 | 27.0 |
| 9.5 | 11 | 43 | 43 | 27.3 |
| 10 | 11.5 | 44 | 44 | 27.9 |
Measure your foot length by standing on paper against a wall and marking your longest toe. Foot length in cm is the most accurate column in that table, because CN and EU shoe sizing vary by manufacturer while a centimetre stays a centimetre. If you're deciding between styles rather than sizes, our breakdown of shoes and boots covers heel height and comfort, and the shoes collection lists foot length in cm on every product.

Hosiery, tights, and thigh highs
Hosiery is sized by height and weight rather than by circumference, and the bands are wide. As a rough guide:
- One size: fits roughly 150 to 175cm and 45 to 70kg.
- Plus or XL: fits roughly 165 to 185cm and 65 to 90kg.
Full-length tights and pantyhose use these bands almost universally, so height is the number to check rather than waist.
Thigh highs are the exception worth thinking about. They're sized to the widest part of the thigh, and men who train legs frequently size out of standard bands even at a normal body weight. Measure your upper thigh at its widest and look for a piece with a silicone band and at least 8cm of listed stretch if you're above 55cm. Our stockings guide goes further into fabric weight and how to stop them sliding down.

What to do when you're between sizes
- Tops: size up. Women's tops are cut narrow through the shoulder and armhole, and the extra room reads as an intentional relaxed fit rather than a mistake.
- Skirts and shorts: size down if the waist is elastic, size up if it's fixed.
- Dresses: size to your chest, not your waist. A loose waist can be belted. A tight chest cannot be fixed.
- Shoes: size up. Feet swell through the day and women's toe boxes are narrower.
Quick reference
If you only remember three things:
- Asian size tags run about one full size smaller than US women's sizing.
- Your shoulders decide your top size, your waist decides your bottom size.
- Add 1.5 to your US men's shoe size.
This guide converts your body measurements into a size. For how a specific garment is cut, our size guide by garment type covers what each piece measures in practice. Every product page also carries its own table in centimetres, and when the product chart and this general guide disagree, trust the product chart.
